Family News In A Flash
February 2008

A good start for my column for February will be to mention my niece-in-law, Alice (Bunny) Pfister’s birthday, which is just the day before mine.  I always seem to remember hers just too late to send a card, so take this occasion to say, “Happy Birthday, Bunny!”

Bunny and Gordon have a grandson, Elija (Eli) who shares her birthday month.  Eli is Mark’s son.

My birthday earned me a lovely party with twelve guests, a yummy, chocolate cake that let everyone know I had made it to the ripe, old age of 92, but that had pretty flowers on it to soften that message.  Chocolate ice cream with cherries in it and good old standby, vanilla….
Everyone knows this time of year finds me yearning for Spring so that was the theme for most of my gifts… flowers, plants, grow-light and seeds, a wind swirly…and a pretty, new sweater, among other surprises.  Thanks to you all.

A couple of days after my birthday, Hildy and Dan flew off to Maryland to spend a few days with Heather and her family… but, most especially, to be there to celebrate ‘Tasia’s second birthday, on the 13th.  Let’s hope it snows (for Dan), but doesn’t get really cold  (for Hildy).

I am busily working at editing the master text for the anticipated book HistoryLink has promised to publish of my stories from my early years.  I find editing a whole lot harder for me than the original writing.  Oh, well… it goes forward.

from Frank Withrow

Well I am a year older today and I feel great.  Anne made me this cake as you can see.  We would mail you a piece, but with the speed of US Mail today I will have to eat it all myself

Nan’s darling “Bitty Bridge” has gone into production by Nichols Brothers, to join her already selling “Dinky Doors” and “Wee Windows”.

Spring is on the way.  Snowdrops and daffodils are showing up in our garden.  The flowering crabapple tree is bursting with new leaves, which are quickly (and spectacularly) followed by pink-and-white blossoms.  The tree is almost 50 years old and each flowering leaves us almost unbelieving of such beauty!  Mother Nature is a fine artist.

Vern and I greet every day with gratitude to still be living in our beloved home overlooking Green Lake. What could be better than that?

Pirated from February issue of HistoryLink.org:
Perseverance is a great element of success. If you only knock long enough and loud enough at the gate, you are sure to wake up somebody.       -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Until next time,
